Formosan Journal of Surgery, launched in 1968, is the official peer-reviewed open access journal of Taiwan Surgical Association and various surgical subspecialties of Taiwan. As an open access publication, it permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository.

The journal publishes articles in the fields of bariatric and metabolic surgery, breast surgery, cardiovascular surgery, colon and rectal surgery, endocrine surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery, neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, surgical translational research, thoracic surgery, transplantation, traumatalogy, urology and its related disciplines. Formosan Journal of Surgery publishes original articles, review articles, case reports and letter to the editor that are of exceptional and unique importance. Studies on state-of-the-art surgical innovations across the entire spectrum of clinical and experimental surgery are particularly welcome.
The aim and significance of the journal is to provide a forum for the publication of research papers on all aspects of surgery and the exchange of new medical knowledge.
The journal will publish technically innovative, state-of-the-art basic, and clinical studies related to health, ethical, and educational issues in all fields of surgery. It intends to provide new information to the Asian-Pacific surgical community. Articles with clinical interest and implications will be given preference.
